Amassed by William and Henry Walters, The Walters Art Museum is one of the finest in the nation and is a world-class museum.  The collection presents an overview of world art from pre-dynastic Egypt to 20th-century Europe, and counts among its many treasures Greek sculpture and Roman sarcophagi; medieval ivories and Old Master paintings; Art Deco jewelry and 19th-century European and American masterpieces.  Walters Art Museum has the finest collection of ivories in the country.  The museum holds the distinction of being the first American Museum to hold a Raphael Madonna. 

Wednesday - Sunday
10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Closed Mondays and Tuesdays including: Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. The museum will also be closed for Thanksgiving Day, December 24, and December 25.

Open on the following holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President's Day, Easter Sunday, and Columbus Day.

The Walters is in Baltimore's historic Mt. Vernon Cultural District, about one mile north of the Inner Harbor and downtown business district. It is conveniently located near MTA bus lines (Nos. 3, 11, 31, 61, and 64) and the Centre Street Light Rail stop. The main entrance is located on Centre Street near the corner of Centre and Cathedral streets.
