The central stairway, balustrade and garden gates have been described as "alone worth the price of admission." The adjacent 45 foot ceilingTall Sculpture Barn is the site of special exhibits, lectures, and special functions. Other notable stuctures include the Gianat Whirligig & Sculpture Plaza, and the Wildflower Garden. The focus of the collection is on the works of art by self-taught individuals, usually without formal training. Unlike folk or contemporary art, AVAM collections are works that are highly personal, spontaneous, and individualized that may be recent, or hundreds of years old and don't reflect or listen to contemporary or anyone else's traditions. 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday (Closed Mondays*) The American Visionary Art Museum is located on a historic site in the Inner Harbor at the base of Federal Hill.
